May is here. Born in a country where the arrival of May is celebrated by songs – yes we sing to welcome her on the last day of April – May means that the long wait for light and warmth is finally over. The spring and sun’s final triumph over the winter. May is buds and blossoms and bloom. May is the month of the eternal hope and light. May is light, warm evenings and the first picnic of the season. May is music from open windows and the scent from bird cherry blossoms, lilacs and cherry blossoms in the evenings. May is drinking cold, white wine in the evening light. Lovely, precious May. She always comes – even if it feels impossible when the darkness and cold still have their hold of the north. May is here now.
