a whiter shade of pale

It has been snowing heavily today and being outdoors was like walking around in a soft, milky, almost monochrome landscape. I understand why the Inuits have a wide range of words for different kinds of snow. Dry snow, wet snow, soft snow, melting snow, white snow, extra-white snow, snow falling over water… The snow today was dry (thankfully not heavy, wet snow) and made the (already snowy) contours softer. This mass of snow muffles sounds, so the world really transforms the world and our perception of it. The living in a Christmas card thus continues.
