roses in the rain

Roses are not famous for their ability to survive, but they are actually  rather tough – even without mentioning their thorns. When I was out on a walk a couple of days ago I passed a church and saw a rose with surviving buds – despite several nights with temperatures below the freezing point. They are real fighters – one of the few non-autumnal flowers that still try to produce flowers. Extraordinary.
