The midvinter – the endpoint of the sun’s travel from north and the starting point for the return – usually occurs December 21. The Swedish name day this day – the shortest day of the year – is Thomas, which is quite suitable since it is the name of one of the most famous doubters throughout history and this day it is easy to doubt that the sun really will return with full force – and still it does; year after year. As you can see – these pics were taken around 15-20 minutes past noon –  the shadows are extremely long which says quite a lot about how low the highest point the sun reaches is at this time of the year. Anyway, tomorrow the day won’t be shorter than today and that is a thought full of hope.
